Strengthening Laboratory Preparedness Is A Cornerstone Of Global Health Security

As Ebola virus disease continues to challenge parts of Central and East Africa, international efforts are increasingly focused on expanding surveillance networks, improving diagnostic capacity, and enabling rapid, coordinated outbreak response.

To reinforce regional preparedness, the World Health Organization (WHO) and Africa CDC have jointly launched the "One Response" framework and a six-month continental preparedness and response plan covering June–November 2026. With a funding target of US$518 million, the initiative aims to strengthen laboratory systems, disease surveillance, infection prevention and control (IPC), emergency coordination, clinical care, logistics, community engagement, and cross-border collaboration across affected and at-risk countries.

Among these priorities, rapid and reliable laboratory diagnosis remains fundamental to early detection, timely intervention, and effective outbreak management.

In support of these efforts, the Cowingene Ebolavirus Detection Kit (EBOV Detection Kit) provides molecular detection of four human-pathogenic ebolaviruses:
